Prof. Stefan Machura
Stefan Machura is Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Bangor University. He has studied sociology and political science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany),where he got his PhD and later taught sociology of law and political science. As topic for his second dissertation (Habilitation, Universität der Bundeswehr München in 2000) he took the cooperation of lay and professional judges at criminal courts. In 2005, Stefan Machura became private professor at the Ruhr-Universität and moved to Bangor the following year. Main research areas are: procedural fairness, the experience of citizens and staff with and in state institutions, popular legal culture, and public administration.
